It is a nice book edited as series of Kameleon. Layra Esquivel has
written anovel, which action starts at the begining of XX century. It
is a story of Jubilo, a person who is able to 'read' and 'hear' real
fealings, which are often impossible to be expressed with words, and,
on the other hand, he is able to be constantly glad of life. As a child
he plays the role of translator between his grandmother whose roots are
from Mai and his Spanish mother. He was able to discover that a little
integration in translated words can bring a lot of goodness... It
becomes a habbit for him when he starts working as a telegraphist. This
gift is also a curse, when it disappears as a radio signal which was
unsetteled by sunspots (sun was celebrated by Mais). The crisis of his
marriage, based on true love. His daughter, Liuvia, also appears, and
she discovers life and family secrets. The book is completlynot my cup
of tea, but I appreciate most of books edited in the series of
Kameleon. The book is mostly about vanishing of: life,
telegraphists, old good times, all that is absolutly constant and
sacred for us, but it is the other way around. The only think that
doesn't depend on time is love. It is shown as a classical archetyp of
this fealing, and it is the aim of all inhabitants of the monkey
planet. generally it sounds sad when sunspots, unfortunate changes of
circumstances, which aren't said aloud about can damage relations
between people. I have read, I have survived, I was suffering at the
begining of this book because I was afraid thatit is a plain moral
book... luckily I didn't stop at the bedining. Many sentences are
perfect to become citations. Moreover relations between woman and man
are described in a very interesting way.
