The Machado de Assis short story called
Missa do galo is writen in first person and Nogueira, an adult man tells in flash back what happened when he was 17 years old and lived with a relative, Menezes, in Rio de Janeiro because he studied in that city and in spite of the holiday had come, he wanted to be in the city because of the Christimas and wanted to see the Missa do galo.Menezes was married with Conceição, a faithful wife,but he was not faithful and had a another woman. Everybody in his home knew that even his wife and once a week Menezes went out to meet the other woman In Christimas night he went out and Nogueira stayed at home to wait the Missa do galo when Conceição met him in the living room and start a behavior of seducion to the young man,her clothes, her talk,her walking, everything that she did showed acts to seduce Nogueira, but he was so young and inexperient that he could not get anyhting, They did not have any act of love because he went out to the Missa do galo. He tells that one year later Menezes dies by an apoplexy and his wife gets married again with a man that worked with her husband.....,.
